2D ANIMATION STORYBOARDS – SQUASH & STRETCH
The Squash & Stretch is a sweet vibe for visually compelling subtleties or even broad ranged expressions in terms of its application into the art of Story.
The subtleties of Squash and Stretch are most notably found to high degree in Disney Features where the types of story and the liberal use of scripting dialogue make it a key element and almost imperative to successful visual storytelling.
Changing shapes while maintaining volume is a wonderful implementation of the squash and stretch technique in animated story art.
The below story art expression is a very simple and clean example of how minimal drawings can still prove to convey dramatic impact through the use of squashing and stretching the characters attributes. When you look at the animatic you can see that the overexaggerated stretch of the hands lends itself to great visual movement.
As well as the second series where the character is seemingly peeling her face off the ground. The dramatic effect and hilarity of it proves quite visually rewarding and solidifies the feeling of impact to her experience.
